Zak Himmelman graduated from Summit High School in 2002 before starting college at DePaul University in Chicago. But the switch from Breckenridge to “The Windy City” proved difficult, and missing the mountains, he moved back to Colorado and finished up school at the University of Denver, where he received a bachelor of arts in digital media studies.
Right after graduation, Himmelman moved back to Breck and started his business, ZDH Design. He specializes in Web design, print design and real estate photography. Himmelman said owning ZDH has given him the chance to help small businesses grow in the community, “which has been very rewarding.” He also works at The Breckenridge Golf Club during the summers.
“Having my own business has allowed me to travel quite a bit, including a trip to Africa where I hiked Mount Kilimanjaro,” he said. “My travels have also taken me to places such as Israel and Dubai.”
Himmelman still lives in Breckenridge, and loves the community, along with the “small-town feel.”
“Although Breckenridge has grown, it still maintains its quaint character while allowing for opportunities one may find in a city,” he said.
Himmelman recently got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Taryn Power, also a Summit High graduate.
Of his time at SHS, Himmelman said his best memory is being a member and then a captain of the school golf team.
“I enjoyed traveling to different parts of the sate and competing as a team,” he said.
Himmelman was the very first golfer from Summit High School to qualify for the state championship.
“Although I did not play very well, it was a great experience,” he said.
