Snowshoe tour of McCullough Gulch slated for Saturday at 10 a.m.
Continental Divide Land Trust invites everyone for a snowshoe tour of McCullough Gulch Open Space on Saturday at 10 a.m. The tour will go until 11:30 or noon. CDLT's executive director Leigh Girvin will lead the tour. All ages are welcome; kids will enjoy learning about animal tracks. Dogs on leash are also welcome. The seven-acre property offers stunning views of Quandary Peak, Summit County's only Fourteener, wetlands, streams and deep spruce forests. Please bring your own snowshoes, water and dress for the weather. The tour is free for current supporters of CDLT or a $5 per adult donation. Kids and dogs are free. Christy Sports takes first in Breck Mardi Gras Parade
After Saturday's Bacchus Ball with Hazel Miller, Fat Tuesday brought Cajun-inspired food, drink specials in town and floats parading down Main Street. Winners are as follows: first place: Christy Sports — “Christy's Royale”; second place: Ski Country Resorts & Sports — “Dragon Queen”; third place: Breckenridge Recreation Department — “Summit Plummet” Other parade highlights included 2012 royalty — Steak & Rib's John O'Connor as Rex and longtime local massage therapist Alison van Straten as queen.
Free homebuyer class set for Saturday
Have you ever wondered what steps are involved in purchasing a home? Come find out at our free homebuyer education class on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Buffalo Mountain Room at the County Commons in Frisco. You will learn the basics A-Z what it takes to purchase a home, as now sure is a great time to do so. The class is sponsored by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, put on by the Summit Combined Housing Authority with help from local volunteers who will walk you through the lending process, real estate transaction, title company portion and home inspection. ‘Traumatic brain injury' forum slated for Monday
Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology invites the community to a free public forum on “Traumatic Brain Injury: From Sports to Combat” at the Silverthorne Pavilion on Monday from 7:30-9 p.m. Learn what experts are discovering about causes, consequences and clinical care across a broad spectrum of traumatic brain injuries. The panel will consist of Dr. Jeffrey T. Barth, director of the Brain Injury and Sports Concussion Institute at the University of Virginia School of Medicine; Dr. Steven DeKosky, professor, vice president and dean of the University of Virginia School of Medicine; and Dr. Kevin Guskiewicz, chair of the Department of Exercise and Sports Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Jon Feeney, a family physician from Edwards and Copper Mountain Clinic, will provide a local perspective. Brief presentations will be followed by audience Q&A.
