A memorial celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Carter Park in Breckenridge for Sean McNeill Travis who died Aug. 13 at the age of 31.
Travis was en route to a Phish concert in Coventry, Vt., with two friends when he died in a car accident. His two friends, Lindsay Malkiewicz and Michael Winepol, also died in the accident.
Travis was born Aug. 11, 1973, in Silver Springs, Md., and grew up in Sterling, Va.
He graduated from Virginia Tech University with a degree in restaurant and hotel management. He worked at Outback Steakhouse throughout and after college when he decided to move to the mountains in 2000.
In Breckenridge, he worked at various jobs - as a chef at the Blue River Bistro in Breckenridge and a waiter at the Uptown Bistro in Frisco (now the Boatyard) - before landing a job as bartender at the Salt Creek Saloon.
He and Malkiewicz had been dating since February.
Travis was an avid skier, having skied on the East Coast, Austria and Canada, before he took up snowboarding. He also enjoyed disc golf and was a Phish fan, having seen more than 100 concerts during the past six years.
Travis is survived by his parents, Vicky and Herschel Travis of Graniteville, S.C.; brothers Richard and Robert of Graniteville; and paternal grandparents Herschel Sr. and Daisy Jane Travis of Morgantown, W.Va.
His family plans to plant a tree in his memory on the Riverview Park disc golf park in North Augusta, S.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mockingbird Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Phish to support music education for children.
Its address is 6948 Luther Circle, Moorpark, CA 93021.
Alma baby dies of SIDSJane Stebbins 8/16/04 Photo will be arriving from Rocky Mountain Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Monday to Jim Pokrandt's e-mail.
