BRECKENRIDGE - A memorial service will be held for Lindsay Malkiewicz at 3 p.m. today at the Salt Creek Saloon in Breckenridge.

Friends of Malkiewicz, who died Friday in a car accident while traveling to a Phish show in Vermont, have worked throughout the week planning the celebration of Malkiewicz's life.

Malkiewicz, 25, was born in Colorado and raised in Plano, Texas. She graduated from Plano High School in 1997 and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas in Austin.

Malkiewicz moved to Breckenridge after graduation about four years ago and made many friends in the area. She loved field hockey and played in college. She loved to snowboard at Breckenridge and Vail.

Linka Odom, the mother of Malkiewicz's good friend Laney Odom, said the 25-year-old was "herself, down to the bone with no doubts about her sense of living life to the fullest." Laney and Malkiewicz had recently returned from a backpacking trip through Europe.

"Her feisty attitude could bring you laughing, out of almost anything, with her wit and depth, and ability to laugh at herself," Linka Odom said. "Lindsay will be greatly missed."

Malkiewicz and two other Breckenridge friends who died in the accident, Sean Travis and Michael Winepol, are being mourned this week by the trio's friends and family.

A memorial service for Travis is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday in Carter Park in Breckenridge. Travis, like Malkiewicz, worked at the Salt Creek Saloon.

"We have had many calls from Sean's friends (family, really) in Breckenridge," wrote Herschel Travis, Sean's father. "During the four years Sean has been in Breck, I have spent a week or more each year skiing and visiting with his friends there and I know what lies behind the scenes that the average tourist doesn't. I know it's a close knit small town and when I was there, his friends became my friends and I know they are in shock as we are.

"I did meet Lindsay this past March and I do know what a special person she was," he added.
