Toddler dies after accident at home

SILVERTHORNE - A 2-year-old Silverthorne boy died Sunday morning when a filing cabinet fell on top of him. Zion Jungck died of blood loss after suffering blunt force trauma, according to Summit County Coroner Dave Joslin.

The boy was playing with some other children in the living room of his family home about 8 a.m. Sunday when the accident occurred, according to the coroner's report. The toddler's mother was in the kitchen making breakfast, Joslin said, when she heard a loud noise in the living room. When she walked in, she discovered the cabinet had tipped over onto her son, according to the coroner's report. The cabinet is about 4 feet high and weighed an estimated 100 to 150 pounds, according to the report.

Silverthorne Police arrived at the home first, and an officer began giving the child CPR, according to the report. Emergency workers from Summit County Ambulance and Lake Dillon Fire Rescue also rushed to the scene, and the boy was taken to Summit Medical Center. There, medical staff gave him fluids, medication and blood, established an airway and gave him oxygen, according to Joslin. The child could not be saved, he said.

The boy is survived by his parents, Paul and Valerie Jungck, and an 8-year-old brother.

Services are being arranged by Hegmann Funeral Service of Idaho Springs, but owner Chris Hegmann said Monday arrangements are not yet complete.
