Historic cars to motor in Breck this weekend

BRECKENRIDGE - Scores of classic and vintage vehicles will be motoring around Breckenridge this weekend as part of the Celebration of Automotive History.

The festivities will feature a concourse of fine automobiles, an autocross precision driving event and a Poker Run road rally. The event is part of the 2004 Summit Historics, an effort to establish an annual vintage auto race within a proposed multi-use park north of town.

The event is hosted by Nostalgia Racing and the Summit Historic Society. Proceeds will benefit the historic society.

The concourse will be staged at the Riverwalk Center parking lot Saturday and Sunday, where historic and vintage automobiles will be displayed by decade with historic interpretation for the period. Winners are determined by peoples' choice votes.

The autocross will be held Saturday at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena on Boreas Pass Road. There, street and race cars will compete for the best times.

Sunday, the Poker Run will follow a course around Summit County historic checkpoints - one of which will include gold panning. Rally competitors will draw a card from a deck at each checkpoint; the driver with the best hand wins.

Participation is open to all marques. Concourse entry and rally fees are $25, and the autocross is $45. Autocross entrants must have a competition driver's license or autocross experience. Helmets and seatbelts are required. Poker Run participants must have valid vehicle registration and proof of insurance.

Awards will go to the first, second and third place winners in each event. Admission is free to the public.

Nostalgia Racing is a club that promotes and organizes historic racing events throughout Colorado.
