SUMMIT COUNTY < Today may be April 3Fool1s² Day, but this is no joke < the six final candidates for Dillon1s first Ice Melt Princess have been selected and voting begins today.
Contest officials have whittled the 13 Ice Princess candidates to the final six. The six finalists are Koleen Brooks, mayor of Georgetown; Shelly Kroger, realtor with the Real Estate Group; Maria Kjeldhoft, District Attorney1s office and bartender at the Backcountry Brewery; Jim Lamb, Colorado Mountain College; Jacquelyn Lies, a travel agent at Keystone Resort; and Jo McDonald, human resources associate at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area.
It costs $1 to cast a vote for this year1s Ice Princess < the candidate receiving the most votes will become the First Lake Dillon Ice Melt Princess. Voting closes at midnight on Tuesday, April 9.
The coronation of this year1s Ice Princess will be at the Dillon Ice Melt Parade Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. in Dillon. The five runner-ups also will be in the parade, as the Princess1 court of snow 3flakes.²
The ice on Lake Dillon is getting soft; so do not delay in purchasing your ice melt tickets. Only $2 per vote, and the person with the closest guess will win $2,000. Tickets may be purchased at the banks listed below or from any Summit County Rotarian. For more information, go to www.dillonicemelt.com.
Proceeds from the Ice Melt Contest and Ice Princess votes help to fund scholarships for Summit High School students and other educational programs in the county. The contest is sponsored by the Summit County Rotary Club.
Ballot boxes will be distributed around the county by noon today, except for the bars and restaurants - those will be available by 6 p.m.
