SUMMIT COUNTY - Police consider alcohol and speeding as factors in a Christmas Eve car accident that killed a Broomfield father of two, said Colorado State Patrol (CSP) Capt. Ron Prater.
Ross Kelly was killed last Friday when a westbound Dodge Durango driven by Rigoberto Hernandez-Chavez, 24, of Boulder crossed the median and collided with Kelly's Ford SUV, CSP Trooper Eric Wynn said.
The accident occurred about three miles east of the Eisenhower Tunnel in Clear Creek County.
Kelly's twin daughters were taken to Children's Hospital in Denver in serious condition. The family is not releasing any further updates on the girls' condition.
Hernandez-Chavez was taken to St. Anthony Central in Denver. His condition was not available.
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed for four hours while emergency crews cleaned up the wreckage.
Prater did not have any additional information and said the accident is still being investigated.
