BRECKENRIDGE - Nudity, walks and gatherings. That's what's new (well, nudity's not new) in Summit's art scene.

The Summit County Arts Council (SCAC) builds upon its successful start by adding events for artists and art fans alike.

In addition to Wednesday Night Nudes, a life-drawing gathering in which nude models pose for drawers at Arts Alive!, the SCAC's gallery, SCAC hosts artists' circles from 6:30-7:30 p.m. every Wednesday. The gathering involves artists reviewing and critiquing each other's portfolios of art work. SCAC also will review new submissions for the gallery.

"Nonmembers are invited and, of course, we hope this supportive group will encourage them to join," said Michael Adams of the SCAC. "This kind of support is one of the keys to moving your artwork to the next level."

For artists and nonartists alike

Even if you're not an artist, you can get involved in the art scene with SCAC's monthly gallery walks in Breckenridge and Frisco.

The gallery walks begin from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12. Every month, the council will feature a gallery from its membership.

The first walk features the SCAC's own Arts Alive! gallery, which presents a Valentine's show.

"Similar events have proven highly successful in other communities, and now our time has come," Adams said. "The gallery community in Breckenridge and Frisco has been virtually unanimous in support of this SCAC initiative."

Most walks include refreshments and artist demonstrations or new shows.

After three months in business, the interactive studio at La Cima Mall in Breckenridge has proven a success.

Adams reported "outstanding" sales in January. The gallery represents 27 artists, and SCAC brought in new members because every artist in Arts Alive! must be a member.

The gallery hosted the January mixer of the Summit County Chamber of Commerce, where more than 200 people attended.

"The gallery has two unique features: only regional Colorado artists are shown, and it is an interactive studio where both artists and visitors can create," Adams said.
