Rotarians give $10,000 donation to clinic

SUMMIT COUNTY - Summit County Rotarians have issued a first delivery on their pledge to support the Community Care Clinic with a $10,000 check to help the clinic serve uninsured or underinsured people.

The total Rotary pledge is $40,000.

Two years ago, each of the 30,000 Rotary Clubs in the world selected a "Centennial Project" to commemorate the founding of the civic organization.

The 115 members of the Summit Rotary Club, spearheaded by former Breckenridge Elementary principal Ann Morrison Clement, selected the Community Care Clinic as their project.

Rotary chapter president Betty Naftz presented the $10,000 check to clinic staffers Dr. Karen Wyatt, Lisa Brozovich, Deb Crook and Dr. Bill Bolthouse on Wednesday.

The Community Care Clinic is a community service to provide health care to individuals who don't have adequate insurance coverage.

Local health care providers and other volunteers donate their time and talents several times a week at the offices of the county public health department at the County Commons near Frisco.

Clement said Rotarians dove into the fundraising projects necessary to reach the $40,000 goal.

Rotarians put on the annual Barbecue at the Summit in Dillon, the Lake Dillon Ice Melt Contest, the Ice Ball, the Rotary Ski Challenge and the Texas Hold 'Em Poker Showdown.

Rotary's newest fundraiser will be the Red Ball Express on May 1 at Arapahoe Basin. The Express is a massive rolling of giant red balls from the top of A-Basin; each ball has a number, and the gambler who bets on the balls that enter the cage at the bottom win big bucks.
