DILLON - At approximately 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue responded to reports of smoke coming out of a unit at a Dillon Valley East condominium building. The unit was a one-bedroom on the second floor of the building.
Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue Engine 8 out of the Dillon station responded and was on scene within six minutes. The crews found heavy smoke and flames originating in the kitchen/living room area.
The unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Crews attacked the fire with a pre-connected hose and water extinguishers. The occupant of the unit was found later and told investigators she regularly leaves a candle burning on top of her television.
"The quick response to this fire definitely made a difference in this case. It saved further damage to the unit and kept the fire from spreading to other units," said Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue Chief Bruce Farrell.
