DILLON Broadway, look out the gals performing in Broadway Babies at the Lake Dillon Theatre have got some pipes, and theyre not afraid to use them.
The show, which opens at 7:30 p.m. tonight, is a revue that spans the gamut from classic musical theater numbers to more recent Broadway hits. The evening includes songs from Chicago, Jekyll and Hyde, Fiddler on the Roof, Once Upon a Mattress, Sweet Charity and several others.
The five-person cast includes the talents of locals Juliana Black and Kelly Renoux and the three out-of-town actresses, Alyssa Larson, Cidalia Alves and Rachel Tamez, here for the theaters Summer Stock performances.
These women are brimming with vocal talent, but they combine it with great acting, which can be a difficult task to pull off. Plus, they really know how to connect with their audience.
Attendees will find themselves wanting to sing along to the familiar songs they know by heart and eagerly learn the ones they dont.
The amazing revue needs little explanation, but heres what to look for in the performance:
Song youll leave the theater singing in your head: Cell Block Tango from Chicago.
Best (and only) outfit change: Larsons pink flamenco-esque dress in Buenos Aires.
Number where Mariah Carey gets upstaged: Alves version of Telling You.
Song with best moral to the story: Matchmaker performed by all (Moral: Playing with matches a girl can get burned).
Funny song with most questionable moral: Saga of Jenny performed by Larson (Moral: Women should sit on the fence and not make up their minds).
Song thatll make you say, What a great voice! Is she really singing a song about urine?: Renouxs rendition of Privilege to Pee.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling (970) 513-9386. Tickets to the opening night celebration, which begins at 6:30 p.m. today, are $20.
