Tancredo comes to Summit

COPPER MOUNTAIN - Illegal immigration is one of Congressman Tom Tancredo's hot buttons.

He will talk about what's happening with our national borders on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Copper Mountain at a luncheon titled, "Secure Borders and Immigration."

The High Country Republican Women of Lake, Eagle and Summit counties invited Tancredo to Copper Mountain.

"The immigration reform has been a hot topic in the national legislation, and we feel (Tancredo) would be of interest to people in Summit County and employers particularly, because we do have a lot of undocumented laborers and people with green cards here," said Jennifer Kermode, vice president of High Country Republican Women.

Tancredo will discuss how new legislation might affect undocumented workers. He supports tightening border control and adding more patrol.

A meet and greet period begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and a lunch featuring a chicken dish will begin at 11:45 a.m. Afterward, Tancredo will answer the audience's questions. Kermode expects 20-30 people to attend.

The event is open to the public, and the cost is $25.

People must register by Tuesday by calling Kermode at (970) 513-8062 or e-mailing loangoddess@maximumfinancialinc.com.

Kimberly Nicoletti can be reached at (970) 668-3998, ext. 245, or at knicoletti@summitdaily.com.
