Not closing the door, but not blowing it open, either

Print Comment
Bravo to columnist Jeffrey Bergeron for his March 27 column about Interstate 70 congestion.

I'm glad someone at that meeting with Breckenridge elected officials and others voiced a sensible opinion. Ninety percent of the time I-70 is just fine to drive as it is.

If more and more people all want to drive on it at the same time, well, let them wait in line or find somewhere else to go.

Bergeron's opinion, like mine, isn't that we should close the door behind us. It's just to avoid blasting out the wall so more people can come through at once.

And yes, local government does owe its responsibility primarily to (all) those who already live here, not just those whose economics are served by ever-increasing numbers of visitors.

I can't vote in Breckenridge since my house is just outside town limits and most of the time I'm thankful. But I hope the mayor's seat is the next on Bergeron's career path when Ernie Blake moves on.

Or maybe he could replace Bill ("Pave It") Owens. Someone has to.
