Summit police investigate second sexual assault case

SUMMIT COUNTY - The Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged sexual assault that occurred last week south of Breckenridge.

The assault reportedly took place on Nov. 8 and an arrest was made at the scene, according to a release from the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

The alleged victim and suspect knew each other, Summit County Sheriff John Minor said. The names of the individuals involved and further details about what happened are not being released because the case is under investigation.

According to District Attorney Mark Hurlbert, a decision will be made Friday on whether or not his office will file charges against the suspect.

Minor said the case is not related to another recent sexual assault report being handled by the Breckenridge Police Department.

On Oct. 23, the Breckenridge Police Department received a third person report that a woman had been sexually assaulted near the courthouse on Lincoln Avenue.

The alleged victim called the police department late last week to report the assault herself, saying she was attacked and sexually assaulted by three men between 11:30 p.m. and midnight on Oct. 21.
