BRECKENRIDGE - If a casual lunch out isn't complete without Fido, a Breckenridge store has just the answer.
The Breckenridge Barkery's doggie diner sells freshly made and assembled lunches for dogs. The meals can then be taken to any number of dog-friendly restaurants in the area so dog and master can enjoy lunch together.
Meals are constructed with a mix of kibble, a main entree such as lamb, and a treat.
Organic vegetarian is the most popular entree choice at the diner, owner Kathy Keedy said, while chicken runs a close second. "There are lots of vegetarian dogs in Summit County," she said. And since dogs are omnivorous, they can survive on a vegetarian diet.

Keedy and her husband Mark opened the Barkery four years ago. The store came out of the couple's love for dogs and the realization that there was no such store in the area.
The doggie diner is the result of people asking the Keedys where they could go to eat lunch with their dogs. Kathy Keedy said that people often take doggie diner meals on hikes with their pets.
A small-dog meal at the diner costs $4.99 and a large-dog meal costs $5.99. Meals are made entirely from human-grade food, Mark Keedy said. If the meat wasn't raw, a person could eat a lunch from the doggie diner.
The doggie diner also offers frozen bones for $4.99.

In addition to the doggie diner, the Barkery sells food, treats, collars, toys and other accessories.
Accessories range from 50-cent treats to $200 works of art.
The Barkery also sells commonplace items such as leashes and more exotic products like paw balm and tooth-cleaning biscuits.
Kathy Keedy said the store's customers are a blend of locals and tourists and that the primary demographic targeted by the Barkery is women between the ages of 30 and 50, she said.

"We may be pretty unique," Mark Keedy said.
