GOLDEN, Colo. - A 38-year-old woman was convicted of charges stemming from her ordering the drowning of her family's two cats because they repeatedly soiled the house, authorities said Friday.
Delene Madison Hart of Littleton was convicted late Thursday of two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and negligent child abuse, Jefferson County district attorney spokesman Carl Blesch said in a statement.
According to testimony, Hart ordered a 19-year-old friend and others to hold the cats underwater until they drowned.
The penalty for the crimes carry between one year in jail to six years in prison.
A sentencing date has no been scheduled.
