Canine 4K race/walk Saturday

Social dogs and dog owners can get together Saturday in Frisco for the 16th annual Canine 4K. Participants circle Frisco and compete for prizes, then can join in contests when the race is over. Vendor tables at the event include food, animal chiropractors, toys and more. There will also be a Count the Dog Biscuits in the Jar contest with a prize. Participants can remember the day with a Kodak instant photo which will be taken - a $2 donation is requested to cover the cost of film. There will also be a booth for commemorative pennants to make and decorate for a $3 donation to LAPS.

Prizes will be awarded to top finishers in the running and walking and age categories and also for the doggie contests, including categories of pet/owner look-alike, best singer, best trick, best dancer and more.

A silent auction at the event offers items such as two sets of airline tickets, dog art, custom designed jewelry and various store/restaurant certificates. Only cash will be accepted and participants don't have to be present to win.

Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. and the race starts around 9:30.

The entry fee for each dog is $22 for LAPS members the day of the race and $27 for nonmembers. Only cash or checks will be accepted.

Dogs participating must be friendly, not in heat and on a 6-foot-leash. Proof of current rabies vaccination and tags must also be presented. There is a limit of two dogs per human.

Dog owners entered in the race will receive a T-shirt and a goodie bag with dog treats, a bandanna, discount certificates to a number of local businesses and a door prize ticket that might win them one of dozens of gifts throughout the event.

There will be a misting tent and doggie pools to cool off both humans and mutts and water will be provided along the course and throughout the event. Bathrooms are available nearby.
