Friends of the Eagles Nest Wilderness seek volunteers

The Friends of the Eagles Nest Wilderness (FENW) is looking for volunteers for their S. Willow Creek trail project on Saturday, Aug. 19. Volunteers are needed to work on the trail connecting Buffalo Mountain with the Gore Range Trail as it crosses the South Willow Creek drainage, installing bridges and other drainage measures. We will hike in from the Ryan Gulch Trailhead about 3 miles.

Interested volunteers should RSVP to Jonathan and meet Saturday morning at 8 a.m. at the Dillon Ranger District office in Silverthorne on Highway 9, just north of I-70. FENW will supply a light breakfast of coffee and bagels and juice. Volunteers should bring work gloves, long pants, sturdy boots, raingear, sunscreen and food and water for lunch. FENW will host a tailgate party at the end of the day with beer, drinks, chips and snacks.

FENW is an apolitical nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization created in 1994 to raise money, goods, and services to help the Dillon Ranger District maintain the Eagles Nest and Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness areas. Check out FENW’s new website www.fenw.org.

’Minefield of Memories’ book signings coming up

“Minefield of Memories” author Karina Wetherbee will signing copies of her book based on her father, Alf Tieze’s, experiences in war-torn Austria. Wetherbee is currently looking into movie deals for her book. The author will be at City Market in Silverthorne on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 4-6 p.m. and at Borders Books in Dillon from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Three area business to celebrate ribbon cuttings

Three festive ribbon cuttings will be held to welcome new Summit County Chamber of Commerce members Alpine Dinners, Tanglewood Lane and Zumiez in the Outlets at Silverthorne.

The ribbon cutting for Alpine Dinners (owner Charlee McCullough) is set for today at 5:30 p.m. at 256 Dillon Ridge Road, A-13 in Dillon near Alpine Bank and Borders Books.

Tanglewood Lane (Properties and Howard Head Sports Medicine Center, located at 265 Tanglewood Lane in Silverthorne behind Wendy's and across from Village Inn) will hold its ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17. Zumiez in the Outlets at Silverthorne (located at 145-L Stephens Way, near Old Navy and Levi's) will be holding its ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, Enjoy cake and special shopping deals. Look for all your gear, clothing and accessories for skateboarding and snowboarding here!

All Chamber members are invited and encouraged to attend these ribbon cuttings to welcome our new members and say hello to members who have have relocated their businesses!

Breckenridge coffee talk Aug. 18

BRECKENRIDGE — Concerned citizens can discuss what’s on their minds with Breckenridge Mayor Ernie Blake and town manager Tim Gagen during the monthly Coffee Talk.

HCSA parents and coaches: Annual meeting on Aug. 18

Fall is around the corner, and it’s just about time for soccer! The High Country Soccer Association is inviting all current and past coaches and parents that have been involved to the group’s annual general meeting on Friday, Aug. 18. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the Commmunity/Senior center in Frisco.

Beverages and snacks will be provided. Come meet the HCSA Board of Directors and staff.
