Aspen Skiing Co. supports greenhouse-gas lawsuit

ASPEN - The Aspen Skiing Co. is supporting a lawsuit seeking to require the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate vehicles' greenhouse gas emissions.

The Supreme Court agreed in June to take up the case brought by a dozen states and others including the Sierra Club. Aspen Skiing Co. filed a friend of the court brief supporting the petitioners Thursday.

The Bush administration has rejected calls by environmentalists and some lawmakers in Congress to regulate carbon dioxide. The 12 states in the case argue that carbon dioxide from automobile tailpipes should be treated as unhealthy pollutants that should be regulated by the EPA.

The agency has said it is confident in its decision not to regulate the chemical under the federal Clean Air Act.
