Q: What type of business do you operate - what do you sell, or what service do you provide?
A: Summit Chiropractic and Rehabilitation provides chiropractic, injury prevention and rehabilitation services. We also offer acupuncture and massage. As part of our injury prevention services we offer bike fit and pedal stroke analysis as well as gait analysis and custom orthotics for all footwear, from running shoes to ski boots. We are one of only four chiropractic clinics in the state offering nerve conduction and needle electromyographic studies for detection of neuromuscular disorders.
Q: Where are you from, and why did you decide to open your business in Summit County?
A: I have lived in Summit County since 1989. I was originally a Merchant Marine Officer and as such I would work onboard the ship for 2 to 3 months and be here for two months. This necessitated me counting on my friends to take care of my affairs while I was away. Those friends have become my family. When the time came for a career change I wanted to find a career that would allow me to help my family and community in the most direct and personal way possible. Chiropractic became my choice after meeting my partner Dr. Ivo Waerlop. I met Dr. Ivo while taking his course in anatomy and physiology at CMC in preparation for a career in health care. He told me that we could practice together if I wanted to become a chiropractor. My wife and I moved to California to go to school (my wife, Margarita Wong is now a Physician Assistant) but we knew from the onset that it was only a temporary move. Summit County has been our home, whether we were located here or not.
Q: What experience do you have in this field?
A: While in California I worked at the L.A. Free Clinic and the City of Angels Free Clinic providing chiropractic care to the city's underserved population. I also worked at the Cal State L.A. campus health center providing care to the students and faculty there. At Cal State L.A. and at Pasadena City College I was given the opportunity to work at the athletic training centers, treating athletes from the track and field, baseball, basketball and volleyball teams. The most rewarding work experience while in California was being chosen to work at the AIDS LifeCycle fund raising ride. This ride is from San Francisco to Los Angeles 700 miles in 7 days. Nearly 5,000 riders participate annually. Working in the chiropractic/sports medicine tent we would treat riders and crew from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. - seeing an average of 100 riders per provider per day.
Q: What sets your business apart from other similar businesses?
A: I am bringing Active Release Technique to Summit County. It is a highly effective treatment for injuries to the soft tissues of the body. While I was in my second trimester at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic I attended a lecture given by an alumnus who spoke about treating soft tissue injuries with a technique called Active Release Technique (ART). His explanation of the healing process and how it could be facilitated with the use of this technique struck a cord with me. I started taking additional courses in ART outside of my regular course work. This allowed me to become certified in ART while still in school. The technique requires developed sense of touch and I believe that I will be better able to serve my patients here in the county because of those three years of experience. I am the only provider of ART in the county and look forward to educating the public in what ART can do for them.
Q: What types of customers do you hope to reach in Summit County?
A: Summit County has an extremely active population. All of the sports and activities which we all participate in can lead to cumulative trauma injuries. Those are the patients who I went to school to help.

Q: Why did you choose to open where you did?
A: Dillon is a great location for our office. It has plenty of parking easy pedestrian access and beautiful views. We are located on the third floor of the Dillon Tech Center next to Pug Ryan's.
Q: What are your plans for your company's future?
A: Our plans for Summit Chiropractic and Rehabilitation are to continue to help as many people as possible prevent injuries through early detection and treatment of muscle imbalances and poor musculoskeletal mechanics. In addition we will help those who have injured themselves using all of the rehabilitation modalities at our disposal including chiropractic adjusting, exercise, acupuncture and nutrition. We will use all of the diagnostic tools available to us to insure that we are using the correct treatment for the condition that the patient has. We are here to keep our community moving. Movement is the key to life and Summit Chiropractic and Rehabilitation can be your key to movement.
