Breck council to focus on housing

Print Comment
BRECKENRIDGE - With Summit County's affordable housing measure set to take effect in just a few days, the Breckenridge Town Council has scheduled a Dec. 19 work session to hone in on the issue.

Beginning Jan. 1, local towns and the county will begin collecting a .125 percent sales tax and impose a development impact fee for new projects to help fund affordable housing projects throughout the area. The new countywide housing authority hopes to collect about $30 million during the next 10 years to buy land and build deed-restricted units for the local work force.

The Breckenridge session begins at 3 p.m. The agenda includes a review of a recent housing tour, a McCain property master plan update, a review of a recent housing needs assessment by RRC Associates, and a look at the town's affordable housing strategy.

Other housing issues slated for review include the subsitution of deed-restricted units, a review of the countywide affordable housing measure, as well as an update on monitoring and enforcement.
