BRECKENRIDGE With the annual St. Valentines Day Massacre snow rugby tournament two days away, members of the Gentleman of the Blue Goose Rugby Club are thinking three-peat.
The Gooses veteran roster that will attempt to win its third consecutive Massacre looks strong, according to club president Ron Reyes, who said recent practices have been well attended.
The 33rd Massacre, a 10s tournament to be held Saturday at Carter Park in Breckenridge, will include 14 mens and seven womens teams.
The Breck-based Goose will play its first match at 9:40 a.m. against a University of Texas alumni team. The hosts will then play Durango at 10:40 a.m. and Fort Collins at 12:20 p.m. The top two teams from two pools will advance to the semifinal round.
Reyes said his team is as fired up as ever for the storied event, especially since this years field will feature several newcomers including the former Longhorns as well as teams from Chicago and Adams St. (Alamosa). Reyes said his team is also looking forward to Aspens return to the Massacre.
Aspen doesnt usually come to this, Reyes said of the vaunted mountain rugby club. They want to have some fun, I guess.
Summits womens team will play matches at 11 a.m. (Colorado State), 12:40 p.m. (University of Colorado) and 1:40 p.m. (The Fallen Angels of Durango).
