Colorado Water Issues Workshop set for Feb. 15 at CMC-Breckenridge

The Colorado River District and Colorado Mountain College are presenting a water issues workshop from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, in the conference room at the CMC Breckenridge Campus.

“Colorado Water Issues” is a free event and is designed for people who want to attain a basic understanding of water law while learning about current events that could shape the future of water supplies in Colorado.

“The workshop is meant to be a casual discussion where the most important thing is for people to learn some of the language of water and what it means to the Arid West,” said Jim Pokrandt, the education specialist for the Colorado River District, based in Glenwood Springs. “The most important defense of Western Slope water is an informed public.”

The Colorado River District is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. It was formed in 1937 to counterbalance Front Range diversions of Western Slope water. In 2007, the same pressures continue with active projects that if approved, would divert more water to the east side of the Continental Divide.

For more information, call the college at (970) 453-6757, the Colorado River District at (970) 945-8522, ext. 236, or e-mail edinfo@crwcd.org. To learn more about water and the Colorado River District, visit www.ColoradoRiverDistrict.org.
