DENVER - A measure that would ask voters to lower the age to serve in the Legislature from 25 to 21 won approval in a House committee on Tuesday.
The bill (House Concurrent Resolution 1002) would need a two-thirds vote in each house before it can appear on the 2008 ballot. The bill now goes to the full House for debate.
Rep. Jeanne Labuda, D-Denver, said many young adults still in their teens do not have the maturity to serve in the Legislature.
"We need to do something else to get young people involved," she said.
The committee rejected a proposal to lower the age to 18 after lawmakers said that was too young.
