Team Summit to benefit from this weekend’s half marathon at Copper

COPPER MOUNTAIN — Partial proceeds from Sunday’s U.S. Race Series will go to Team Summit, the event’s official charity.

The local ski club will contribute an estimated 250 volunteer hours (about 50 people) during the festival weekend at Copper, according to the group’s executive business manager, Allie Bruni.

Team Summit volunteers will also put on an all-day barbecue both Saturday and Sunday, which includes a pancake breakfast that begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The barbecue and the pancake breakfast will be in the Burning Stones Plaza at the resort.

The new event, a half marathon that will be part of the national U.S. Race Series, is set for Sunday at 9 a.m. There will also be an accompanying 2K run, 5K walk as well as kids’ events.

The race at Copper follows a series stop in Sun Valley, Idaho, on May 27 and precludes another in San Francisco (Nov. 4).

Registration for the event is available Saturday at the resort from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m, and on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

The half-marathon will feature awards for the top three males and females in the following age divisions: 19-under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+.
