Best Place to See a Show
Dillon Amphitheatre
How can you beat an outdoor venue that brings in an act that dresses as Sonny and Cher, the Village People and disco divas — all in one night? The Dillon Amphitheatre brings in fun-loving acts like the Nacho Men, and spices up every summer Saturday night with free acts ranging from funk and old-school rock to country. The amphitheater draws a range of ages — from the bittiest of kids spinning in circles in front of the stage to retirees rockin’ in the aisles. As you groove to the music, the mountains and reservoir add stunning visuals.
2. Copper Mountain 3. Riverwalk Center - Breckenridge
Best Entertainer/Band
Arnie J. Green
Arnie J. Green belts out rhythm-and-blues and whatever else he feels like playing that night (he doesn’t like to put himself in a musical category) and gets crowds going. That’s why this entertainer tops the Best of Summit list.
2. Leon Littlebird 2. The Burn 3. Doo Wop Denny
Best Place to Propose
Sapphire Point
As the sunset coalesces in an array of pink, orange, yellow and blues refl ecting off of the water, people can’t help but feel warm hearted. So if you’re looking for one of the most beautiful places to commit to a lifetime of dreams together, park at the turnoff at Swan Mountain Road, take a short hand-in-hand stroll and pop the question at the overlook. Perched high above the lake, it offers a different perspective on the splendor of Summit County. But make sure no romantics are ahead of you; Sapphire Point received 202 votes as the best place to propose.
2. Ski Tip Lodge 3. Keystone Ranch
Best Place for a Romantic Date
Ski Tip Lodge
What could be more romantic than a former 1880s stage-coach transformed into a cozy bed and breakfast and gourmet restaurant? Our voters couldn’t think of anything. The Ski Tip Lodge, tucked among the wetlands of the Snake River, offers a four-course dinner menu that chefs rotate daily. It consistently receives high reviews for its innovative entrees and stellar service. Plus, its charming and elegant fi replace is the perfect place to snuggle up with your loved one and enjoy the famous desserts, a drink or coffee.
2. Hearthstone Casual Dining & Catering 3. Alpenglow Stube
Best Place to Find a Date
Grocery Store
"What’s the hottest dish you’ve tasted lately?” Ah, yes, that’s just one of the horribly cheesy (get it, cheesy?) lines you can use to pick up that hottie in the grocery store. Let’s face it: A cart of food (or marginally edible items) tells a lot about a person. It’s better than match.com to fi nd a health nut, a couch potato or a balanced personality (plenty of veggies with a box of cookies for indulgences). And every local knows that you really should look your best when grocery shopping, because you’ll run into at least one or two people you know.
2. Rec Centers 3. On the mountain
Best Radio Personality
Steve Burell, KSMT
Steve Burrell strives for perfection every time he’s in front of the mic. He describes himself as great, magnifi cent or even super-duper, and says he gives off a supernaturalvibe, like some sort of demigod.“Of course, everyone likes me,” he said, “except for criminally insane people.”
So, I guess you’d have to be insane not to vote for him.
2. Johnnie Brokaw - KSMT 3. Tom Fricke - KYSL
Best Arts and Crafts
Wal-Mart
Low prices matter to local crafters; they voted Wal-Mart the best place to pick up supplies. Whether it’s beads, fabric, feathers, scrapbooking paper and stickers or any other creative item, Wal-Mart has ya covered.
2. Balance Sheet 3. Cross Country Crafts
Best Art Gallery
Breckenridge Art Gallery
Gary and Janet Freese host some of the fi nest artists; several of them are represented in collections and museums throughout the nation. The Freeses have operated the gallery since 1976, and they strive to fi nd unique artists who create standout pieces. From paintings to sculptures, this gallery has it all.
2. Buffalo Mountain 3. Breckenridge Photographics
Best Artist
Todd Powell
Todd Powell’s motivation for photography comes from his lifetime love of the outdoors and his desire to explore and share it with others. “Photographing Summit County for over 20 years is a wondrous inspiration,” he said. “It has been a gift experiencing our dramatic landscape, seasons and weather, as well as meeting and working with the talented athletes who appear in my adventure images.” He displays his prints in a gallery on Frisco’s Main Street for both locals and visitors — an endeavor that pushes his enthusiasm and creativity on a daily basis. He’s currently working on a series of mural-sized panoramic scenes of Summit County.
2. Ann Weaver 3. Connie Johnson
Best Après Ski
Burke & Riley’s Irish Pub
What do you expect? It’s an Irish pub. Plus, it has one of the best decks in Breckenridge, with a fi repit set high on the third fl oor of the La Cima mall, with unobstructed views of the mountain — and the food is all homemade. But what really sets the pub apart is the friendly staff. “Everybody knows each other, and if they don’t, they get to know each other,” said co-owner Mark Burke.
2. Kickapoo Tavern 2. Mi Casa
