Schedule set for Dialogue Over Dinner

FRISCO - The Summit Prevention Alliance (SPA) is proud to announce the 2007-2008 "Dialogue over Dinner" schedule, beginning with its October presentation and discussion of Nutrition and Behavior with Justin Pollock.

SPA along with Summit County's Drug Free Community Coalition is committed to hosting "Dialogue over Dinner" each month for as long as strong parent participation continues.

"Dialogue Over Dinner," for parents of Summit County, was a concept developed by the Summit Prevention Alliance in an effort to support parents to become better educated and more connected about the lives and challenges facing their adolescents, and the power they have as parents to facilitate good decision-making with their children. It is hoped that through a series of relevant informational workshops, parents will not only become better informed, but will see each other as resources for the ongoing parenting challenges they may face.

The initial workshop, "Safe Choices: Supporting Your Teen During Prom" was held in 2006 and was facilitated by Summit School District counselor Kate Glerup. The relief felt by the two dozen or so parents attending, upon hearing the issues faced by other parents, was apparent. The following workshops have hosted a variety of presenters from Summit County and throughout Colorado. Community participation continues to grow with an average of 50 parents attending each seminar.

Feedback from parents regarding topics of interest was initially gathered through Summit School District's PTSA and PTSO, and later from parents attending the seminars.

Summit Prevention Alliance is a community-based non-profit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles and behaviors through education and prevention services in the diverse community of Summit County.
