SUMMIT COUNTY — Whether you’re looking to get scared, or just planning your trick-or-treat activities, there’s much going on around town on Halloween. Here are a few of the happenings:

‘Cannibal the Musical!’

BRECKENRIDGE — Last year’s sold-out hit returns at the Backstage Theatre, through Nov. 4.

“Cannibal The Musical!,” written by Trey Parker the co-creator of “South Park,” is based on actual events from Colorado’s history.

Given Trey Parker’s spin — the story revolves around Alferd Packer, who leads a group of men from Utah to Colorado Territory (their destination is Breckenridge!) in search of gold. Along the way, they have a run-in with malicious trappers, lose Packer’s beloved horse, Liane, encounter a weed-loving Indian tribe, and meet a grisly fate when they get horribly lost in the snowy Colorado mountains. And they sing and dance a lot, too.

“Cannibal” plays on Halloween at 7:30 p.m. and plays Thursday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m., closing on Nov. 4. The show contains adult language, mature content and comic violence. All shows are held at the Breckenridge Theatre, located at 121 S. Ridge St. in Breckenridge. Tickets are $20. For more information or tickets, visit www.back stagetheatre.org or call (970) 453-0199.

Frisco hosts haunted house, also Trick or Treat Street

FRISCO — The county’s only haunted house is at the Frisco Recreation Building at 110 3rd Ave., while Trick or Treat on Main Street offers a safe Halloween night for county children and their families on Wednesday.

All ages are welcome to drop by the haunted house for a good scare. The haunted house is open from 6-10 p.m. and the cost is $5 per person ($3 with any student ID). All proceeds benefit Mountain Mentors and ARBY.

During Trick or Treat on Main Street trick-or-treaters can help themselves to all the sweets they can handle at businesses up and down Main Street and in the Frisco Historic Park. For little feet needing a rest, cartoons will play in the Historic Park Log Chapel. Trick-or-treaters can look for the businesses giving out candy by the bright orange jack-o’-lanterns hanging outside from 6-8 p.m.

2nd annual haunted history Wednesday at the Briggle House

BRECKENRIDGE — Trick-or-treaters can meet some of Breckenridge’s early residents at a Haunted History event at the Briggle House.

From 4:30-8 p.m., a cast of characters from Breckenridge’s early days will hand out candy and lead kids and adults on a haunting tour of the Briggle House. Some of the historic figures that will be present include: Katie Briggle, who played wonderful recitals in her home and is still believed by some to haunt the Briggle House today; George Milne, the Briggle’s next door neighbor who was tragically killed in a railroad accident; Ada Finding, who in 1888 was pronounced dead and came back to life albeit only for a day; and Edwin Carter, a taxidermist and naturalist who collected and stuffed thousands of local wildlife specimens. Halloween guests may even see an outhouse haunted by two Italian miners who were poisoned to death by the outhouse seepage.

Haunted History at the Briggle House is presented by the Summit Historical Society and the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance. The Briggle House is located at 104 N. Harris St. This event is free to the public.

For more information on this or other upcoming events, call (970) 453-9767.

Late night at the movies

DILLON — Dillon’s Skyline Cinema will host midnight Halloween showings of “Saw IV” and “30 Days of Night.” Doors to the theater will open at 10:30 p.m. There will also be a costume contest for best, scariest and cutest costume.

Lake Dillon Theatre hosts Halloween costume party on Friday

DILLON — On Friday, Nov. 2, the Lake Dillon Theatre will host a costume party starting at 7:30 p.m. for $10. A discounted cash bar will be available with Dillon Dam draft beer and snacks will be provided.

There will be contests for Best Individual Costume and Best Group/couple Costume among others. There will also be door prizes and a special round of Halloween Jeopardy.

DJME will host the karaoke all night long. There will also be a few rounds of kamikaze karaoke — you’ll never know who is singing what song — until your name is called. E-mail theatre@lakedillontheatre.org to reserve a space.
