CASTLE ROCK - It's not a playoff year for the Summit High School football team, but the Tigers still finished their season a respectable 7-3 after Saturday's 65-16 drubbing of Castle View at Douglas County High.
"We're excited with our finish," SHS coach Dylan Hollingsworth said by phone after the game in Castle Rock. "This is the winningest group of seniors in school history - 31-12."
Summit (4-2 in the 3A Central Metro League), whose playoff hopes were dashed with last weekend's heartbreaking 14-7 loss at Rock Canyon, got out of the gates early against the Sabercats when Cody Thomas scored on a 17-yard run within the game's first 2 minutes.
Castle View (2-8, 1-5 in 3A Central Metro) nearly drew first blood, but the Tigers made a big defensive stand at the 4 yard line, which set up their 99-yard offensive drive.

It didn't take long for both SHS tailback Talon Roggasch and quarterback Landon Greve to build on the lead by rushing for touchdowns. Greve, who finished with more than 200 passing yards, ran in his tally from approximately 47 yards.
The Tigers got subsequent TDs from Thomas, Roggasch, Jordan Sitkoski, Rick Dreyer, Carlos Oberheide and Josh Kroening.
Hollingsworth described the TD by Oberheide, who is one of 12 departing seniors, as a highlight of Saturday's game.
"This is a kid that's played for us the last couple of years," Hollingsworth said, "and he did everything we asked.

"(Sitkoski) was just a beast offensively," Hollingsworth said when asked about other highlights. "He had one block where he came around the end and lifted a kid like three feet off the ground and three yards back. On the next play, he ran over two kids to take it into the end zone."
Hollingsworth said both Sitkoski and senior Scott Campbell were tireless in keeping Castle View's quick QB L.A. McGee in check.
"They tried to get McGee into the open field one-on-one," Summit's coach said. "(Sitkoski and Campbell) did a good job of spying him and containing him."
The Sabercats added two third-quarter TDs, but it was far from enough to stop the defending 3A Central Metro League champions from going out in style.

"Our success is measured by how much we grew and improved this season," Hollingsworth said. "And we saw a lot of growth and improvement, which is important."
