Rockfall project set to start on Georgetown Hill

Print Comment
CLEAR CREEK COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) begins a rock mitigation project along Interstate 70 at “Georgetown Hill” this week. Work includes scaling, installation of rockfall fencing, netting, mesh and anchors.

Operations begin Wednesday — weather permitting. Project hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Safety considerations will require 20-minute traffic stops on eastbound and westbound I-70 for rock scaling above the north slope of the highway. Traffic stoppages will occur throughout the day — with eastbound traffic stopped at Silver Plume and westbound traffic just east of the Georgetown interchange.

Following next week’s work, a right lane closure will be in place on westbound I-70 up Georgetown Hill during the same work hours as above, Monday through Thursday. Vehicles wider than 12 feet will not be allowed to travel through this area when the lane is closed.

Due to increased holiday traffic, the project will be suspended from Friday, Dec. 21 through Tuesday, Jan. 1, with work resuming on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
