Sympathy keeps Britney Spears off Richard Blackwell’s worst dressed list

Pregnancy dream come true

After months (and years) of curtailing pregnancy rumors, Nicole Kidman is finally pregnant. The actress’ publicist confirmed Monday night that Nicole and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, are expecting their first child. The couple have recently been very open about their desire to have children. Last fall, Nicole told Vanity Fair that she’s “yearning for one,” while also revealing to the magazine that she suffered a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy during her marriage to Tom Cruise (they later adopted two children Isabella, 15, and Connor, 12). Janelle Kidman, Nic’s mother, told the Sydney Morning Herald that her daughter is expecting around the month of July. It’s likely that the actress’ famous frozen face will finally start to see some movement soon since you shouldn’t get botox while you’re pregnant.

Golden Globes on hiatus

Due to the never-ending writers strike, the Golden Globes (and all the after-parties) were officially canceled Monday. The actors and writers remain bound by the strike and therefore the Screen Actors Guild pledged that its members wouldn’t cross picket lines. No stars, no show. It is unfortunate news considering that this is the only awards show that provides real entertainment, mainly because all the hot television and movie stars are present and they usually get pretty tipsy during the champagne dinner. This makes for some entertaining acceptance speeches as well as some juicy after-parties. If you really care about the actual awards, then tune in anyway because NBC will air an hour-long press conference to announce the winners.

The show went on for the 13th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, which aired on Monday night on VH1. The show, which wasn’t covered by any writer’s guild contracts, drew many famous faces, including Angelina Jolie, who was up for best actress for “A Mighty Heart,” Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Sean Penn, Queen Latifah and Daniel Day-Lewis (who won best actor for the acclaimed “There Will Be Blood”).

“No Country for Old Men” won three awards, including best picture. “Hairspray,” “Juno” and “There Will Be Blood” all tied with two wins each.

Black-listed style

Speaking of awards, it may not be a very nice list, but it sure is entertaining (and predictable). It’s Mr. Blackwell’s 48th annual celebrity worst-dressed list. The infamous list, created by fashion critic, Richard Blackwell, names Victoria Beckham as the worst dressed of 2007, followed by Amy Winehouse, Mary Kate Olsen, Fergie and Kelly Clarkson. Also in the top 10 were Lindsay “leggings” Lohan and Jessica Simpson.

There is an obvious oversight on the list with the absence of Britney Spears. But according to Mr. Blackwell, Britney deserves a break this year from her usual spot on the list. “I felt it was inappropriate at this time to make comment when her personal life is in such upheaval,” he said.

Spears’ spiral continues

The doomed pop star has apparently hit rock bottom after she was recently admitted to Cedars-Sinai hospital for psychological evaluation. Police said at the time that Spears appeared to be “under the influence of an unknown substance.” Well, even though she has lost all custody and visitation rights of her two boys, which hasn’t appeared to phase her, at least she came out clean in the drug test. According to People magazine, Britney tested free of illegal drugs and alcohol during her two night stay at the hospital. This may only confirm rumors that she suffers from an undiagnosed bipolar disorder. Sources close to the singer claim that Spears has “suffered from a psychological disease for years.”

And I quote...

“At least she is older than 16.”

— George Clooney, when asked for his reaction to Nicole Kidman’s pregnancy at the Critics’ Choice Awards
