Kansas man dies in Breckenridge after snowboard incident

Man was wearing helmet

BRECKENRIDGE — A 33-year-old Kansas man died Sunday after landing on his head in a terrain park at Breckenridge Ski Resort, officials say.

According to Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson, James McLean was wearing a helmet when he landed on his head after going off a jump in the Park Lane Terrain Park on an intermediate run. Mclean, a podiatrist from Leawood, Kan., was pronounced dead at the Breckenridge Medical Center, Richardson said.

Richardson said McLean died of a fractured neck.

A call came into Breckenridge Ski Patrol at approximately 1:51 p.m. and ski patrol responded immediately, according to Breckenridge Ski Resort.

Also according to the resort: Ski patrol provided life support and transported the patient to the Breckenridge Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

“Breckenridge Ski Resort, the Breckenridge Ski Patrol and the Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to all of his the family and friends,” the resort said in a release.
