FRISCO — Samplings Restaurant and Wine Bar in Frisco has been listed in the ZAGAT America’s Top Restaurants 2008 guide, receiving a score of 25 out of a possible 30 points.

Recognized as ‘Very Good’ to ‘Excellent’ in all categories, from food and décor to service and cost, Samplings is called the place “to go with some friends (to enjoy) artfully crafted New American small plates and incredible desert samplers (in a) cozy, sophisticated setting.”

The Samplings description on page 95 of the guide incorporates reviewers’ comments that describe the staff as “amicable and highly trained (to offer) creative wine pairings and guide you (through a) tantalizingly long dinner” and it concludes with the recommendation to “ask for a seat by the fireplace.”

“Since we have been open less than three years, it is absolutely thrilling to be included in an internationally-recognized publication,” said owner John Buchanan.
Samplings features a small plates menu.

“Some describe it as upsized tapas,” said Chef Weist, “but we prefer to think of it as deconstructed tasting menus with the courses offered a la carte.” Diners typically choose two or three dishes from a list of 15 to 20 and each plate has four or more flavors, textures, colors and temperatures. All are meant to be enjoyed and shared, and then diners move on the next plate. A multi-course tasting menu paired with wines is also offered.
