ENLARGEThe Swayback, a punk and rock 'n' roll band which got its start in Breck, plays Cecilia's in Breckenridge on Friday.
BRECKENRIDGE — During his three seasons living in Summit County, The Swayback founder Eric Halborg got his start for a band.
About 10 years ago the bass player and singer met guitarist Bill Murphy in Breckenridge. They began jamming then, but were sidetracked by college and a move to Los Angeles respectively.
In early 2000 Halborg and Murphy were back in Denver together and found drummer Martijn Bolster to round out the group.
Since then they have been honing their sound, and recently recorded their second album, “Long Gone Lads.”
Halborg said their first album was a hodgepodge of different works, while this one, set for release in April, is the band’s “first succinct statement.”
He cited a good response so far, with radio play in Boulder, Denver and Summit County.
Halborg described their sound as having started out as punk, yet evolving into more rock ‘n’ roll with avant-garde tendencies.
Based in Denver, Halborg said the group hopes to do some gigging in Europe, and also has some shows planned for South by Southwest coming up in March.
The Swayback will play at Cecilia’s tonight; before and after the show Halborg will be spinning tunes.
