George Clinton, Matisyahu, Pato Banton to headline Copper’s Sunsation

COPPER MOUNTAIN — George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars, Matisyahu, Susan Tedeschi, Pato Banton and Eek-A-Mouse will headline the 8th annual Sunsation end-of-season celebration at Copper Mountain April 5-6 and 12-13.

In addition, De Sol, Topaz, Lotus, Band of Heathens and more are set to perform during Sunsation’s two-weekends of free live music and on-hill events.

George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars are set to play a free show during Sunsation on Saturday, April 12.

The band is a funk music collective headed by the innovative George Clinton, specializing in the style of music known as Parlaiment-Funkadelic. Recording under myriad names, this group had 13 Top 10 hits on the U.S. R&B music charts between 1967 and 1983, including six number one hits. In May of 1997, George Clinton and 14 other members of P-Funk were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Matisyahu will bring his uncanny, electrifying fusion of Orthodox Judaism and classic reggae to the Sunsation masses for a free show on April 13. Via adventures in Colorado, Israel, Oregon and New York City he not only heard a profound spiritual calling, but also discerned a revolutionary way to share his discoveries and reflections through the reggae and hip-hop sounds that had long been an integral part of his day-to-day soundtrack.

Susan Tedeschi has established a formidable reputation as a deeply expressive singer, talented guitarist and distinctive songwriter. After establishing herself as one of New England’s top-drawing live acts and making her recording debut with her embryonic 1995 album Better Days, Tedeschi achieved an impressive musical and commercial breakthrough with Just Won’t Burn, garnering three Grammy nominations throughout her career.

Coming to the Sunsation stage April 6 is Pato Banton and the Reggae Revolution and their charismatic performance, where no show is alike and audience members become participants in the experience. The direction of each concert is totally based on the feedback Pato receives from the audience as there is no fixed set list. Also sharing the stage with Pato Banton on April 6 is Eek-A-Mouse. He has created a style all his own and gone on to become an international phenomenon quite apart from the rest of the world of reggae.

In addition to free live music, Sunsation on-hill activities include Hometown Heroes April 11-13. Guests can witness a progressive event that made its debut last year. Twelve of the top professional snowboarders will compete alongside 12 of their future counterparts, today’s top Amateurs (AMs).

The contest will have an innovative team format on the slopes of Copper with top AMs and pros going head to head. Look for a unique rail set from Copper’s park and pipe crew just above Burning Stones Plaza. For more information, visit http://hhsnow.com/.
