FEBRUARY

February 1-3 The Suzuki US Freeskiing Open, Copper Mountain The 2008 Suzuki U.S. Freeskiing Open Championships at Copper is freeskiing’s most prestigious event. Going into its 11th year, the Open Championships is the longest-running competition of its kind. Every year, the U.S. Freeskiing Open Championships finds the newest talent in freeskiing, and this year promises to be no different. See athletes from around the world compete in three different disciplines: Slopestyle, Superpipe and Big Air. Year after year the Open proves itself to be the showcase for freeskiing’s top stars and up-and-comers alike.

February 2-3 39th Annual Frisco Gold Rush Weekend, Frisco Nordic Center Nordic and snowshoe races at the Frisco Nordic Center on Sunday.
February 2-3 Copper Series — Snowboard Cross, Copper Mountain Copper Series continues with the exciting snowboard cross events this weekend to be held on the Vein Glory boardercross course. The USASA Copper Mountain Series, the largest and longest running amateur snowboard series in North America, celebrates 21 years of amateur competition. Events take place throughout the season, online registration and details are available at www.copperseries.com. Most events are open to both snowboarders and skiers.
February 5 Tenth Annual River Run Mardi Gras Street Party, 2-6 p.m. River Run and Keystone Events Plaza The River Run Events Plaza has been converted to the Big Easy! Snatch those traditionally famous beads tossed from the wacky contestants of Keystone’s Float Parade. Drinking, dancing, bead collecting along with a float parade and gumbo competition create a day of crazy festivities. Let the jubilant sounds and sweet aromas tempt you from the heart of the action. River Run’s scenic balconies are a great location to view the festival’s center stage featuring live music. Don your feather mask, grab a hurricane and bundle up for one of the wildest events of the winter. Street performers, a live band and hurricanes are all on hand with a New Orleans flare. After the sun sets, the party continues at River Run’s restaurants and bars.
February 5 Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday Celebration, Breckenridge Fat Tuesday begins with a party in the plaza at Main Street Station and continues down Main Street with a festive procession of floats and lots of beads.

February 7 Copper Mountain Business League — Giant Slalom Copper Mountain Business League continues the competition season with a Giant Slalom race. Copper Mountain’s Business League is the longest running league in Summit County. Teams of businesses, friends and co-workers come out every Thursday to compete against one another. Open to all ages of racers, the Business League provides weekly races against some of the best racers in the county. This fun and competitive league, complete with weekly after parties, allows for every racer to get out on the snow. Each party includes a video from the day’s race and great giveaways.
February 7-9 “The Housekeeper,” 7:30 p.m., Breckenridge Theatre When self-styled literary artist Manley Carstairs loses his dominating mother and inherits her large Victorian house, he hires Annie Dankworth, the worst housekeeper in the history of housekeeping. March 2-3 Colorado Special Olympics Winter Games, Copper Mountain The Winter Games mark the culmination of the winter sports season for the 550 athletes who annually participate in Alpine Skiing, Cross Country skiing, Figure Skating, Snowshoeing and Snowboarding. This season marks the 20th consecutive year Copper Mountain will host the event. Copper is proud to be the official winter training site for all Colorado-based winter Special Olympics athletes as well as the official host resort for the Winter Games through 2010.

March 23 Easter Egg hunt, Frisco Main Street and Historic Park
March 23 Beach’n Egg Hunt, Arapahoe Basin The Easter Bunny visits A-Basin for an Easter Egg Hunt on skis. Both skiing and non-skiing children can participate. The Easter Bunny arrives at the Basin at noon — just outside the new Snowsports Center. Egg hunts take place on Molly Hogan for those who do not ski and Wrangler for those that do ski.
March 23 Colorado’s Largest Easter Egg Hunt, Copper Mountain More than 50,000 Easter Eggs will fill the Village and Mountain this Easter Sunday at Copper. There will be an all-ages hunt on the mountain and two kids’ hunts in the village. Plus there will be special “Copper Eggs” in each of the hunts that can be redeemed for great prizes!

March 29 River Run Blues and BBQ Festival, 1-5 p.m. at River Run at Keystone Jazz up your weekend with a spicy afternoon of authentic barbecue and silvery blues music. March 30 through April 4 USASA Nationals, Copper Mountain Copper is the host venue for the largest snowboarding and freeski event on Earth — the USASA Nationals. Each year, the top regional finishers are invited to attend the USASA National Championships to compete against some of the best male and female athletes from around the country in slopestyle, halfpipe, boardercross, slalom and giant slalom in their quest to become National Champions.
APRIL
April 1-20 Spring Massive, Breckenridge This annual festival is a multi-faceted, interactive event including entertainment, family fun and competitions. The perfect event for spring skiing. Events include the April Fool’s Day Celebration, live music, Bite of Breckenridge, Massive Brewfest, comedy nights and on-mountain competitions to name a few.

April 16-19 Annual Enduro, Arapahoe Basin Only A-Basin would bring you an endurance race of this caliber. Skiers and riders take laps on the Pali Chair from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. without stopping. Sixty-nine runs is the record. All proceeds from the event benefit a local charity.

April 23 KSMT Local’s Appreciation Day, Arapahoe Basin Summit County local radio station teams up with local businesses and bands to throw a huge party celebrating the ski season.

April 26 6th Annual Grind, Arapahoe Basin Athletes skin uphill on a challenging course and race down to the finish. Race category vertical is approximately 4,500 feet, recreational 2,000 feet. Categories include race, recreational, telemark and snowboard divisions. Two Categories: Race and recreation Start time is 10 a.m. at A-Basin Base Area below High Noon. $2,000 cash prizes awarded to top three males and females. Soft and hard good prizes from our sponsors will be awarded in sub-categories. Beer Garden and Sponsor Tent Village in the base area. Raffle and goodie bags for all competitors.

May 3 5th Annual Huck, Rock & Roll Terrain Park Competition and May concert series, Arapahoe Basin After the other parks have put away the rails and dozed the jumps, the Treeline Terrain Park will be ready to host an amateur slopestyle competition for snowboarders and freeskiers who aren’t quite ready to call it quits.
