The Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge is seeking men, women and children for their Labor Day production of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz.” This is the Royal Shakespeare Company version with music and lyrics from the MGM motion picture score by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg. Book adaptation is by John Kane.
This production will be directed by Wendy Moore. Musical direction is by Gail Smith. Auditions will be held on Sunday, May 4 at the Backstage Theatre at 121 S. Ridge St. in Breckenridge. Children (under 18) may audition from noon to 4 p.m. Adults may audition from 4-6 p.m. Those auditioning are asked to prepare a verse and chorus from the musical and to bring sheet music.
Those auditioning should also prepare a two-minute children’s story told as a character from the play (i.e. The Wicked Witch telling a bedtime story) and be prepared to dance.
Rehearsals for “The Wizard of Oz” will begin in early July. Performances are over Labor Day, Aug. 29-31 at the Riverwalk Amphitheatre in Breckenridge.
All roles are available. Seeking all principles characters and chorus members. Men, women and children to play Munchkins, Monkeys and Winkie Guards, etc. (Need not be cowardly nor a lion to apply...) Also seeking volunteers to help with backstage running crew, set construction, costumes, props and special effects.
