Hot Sulphur Springs under water restrictions

Print Comment
GRANBY — Despite repeated “flushings” of its water system, the town of Hot Sulphur Springs is still under water restrictions.

Since last week, the town has conducted five flushings of its water distribution lines.

The flushings, using highly chlorinated water that is run through the lines and expelled through fire hydrants, is meant to disinfect them.

Hot Sulphur Springs has been under water restrictions since Monday, April 7, when the Colorado Department of Health issued an order for residents to boil their drinking and cooking water. The order was issued due to a water filtration system failure at the Hot Sulphur Springs water plant.

The Colorado Department of Health’s order was based upon the high level of turbidity (cloudiness) of the water at the town’s water filtration plant. The water filtration levels have been corrected, but the town’s water lines need to be cleaned of contaminants.

Department of Health’s order requires all drinking and cooking water to be boiled for at least one minute before use. Water straight from the tap can be used for showering, washing hands and clothing, and flushing toilets.
