BRECKENRIDGE — Breckenridge Town Council members welcomed Rob Millisor back by voting him into the seat on council he held throughout the past four years.
He was one of the seven people vying for an open seat on the council that became vacant after Councilmember Dr. John Warner was elected mayor this month.
Before taking a paper ballot vote, Warner said, “I’m impressed with all seven of you. ... You are terrific, intelligent, engaged.” Also, he added he would be calling all of them to talk about other ways they could get involved with the Town.
The applicants included Millisor, Geoffrey Gempeler, Jane Tarlow, John Ebright, Carol Rockne, Jim Lamb and Larry Willhite. The six councilmembers interviewed them during the Tuesday work session, took public comment during the start of the evening meeting and followed that with a vote.
During the first vote, a majority wasn’t reached but there was a tie that narrowed the candidates from seven to two — Millisor and Rockne.
Millisor, who moved to Breckenridge in 1986, bought a property management and timeshare sales company a few years later. At the end of the 90s, he began the development and sales of Grand Timber Lodge.
In his last term on the council, he started a subcommittee to focus on childcare and affordable housing. He decided not to run for re-election this spring, but will now serve a two-year term filling the vacancy of the seventh seat.
“I was psyched when I finished,” he said, adding that after the last four years on council he wanted to spend more time with his family and business. However, as he thought about the impact and what was accomplished in the Town, he decided “there’s so much more to do,” he said during the interview.
“I’d like to be a part of making this a better place,” he added.
