VAIL — A 25-year-old Gypsum man was in serious condition Saturday after being hit in the abdomen late Friday night by a shotgun blast in Dotsero, possibly following an argument at a party, according to a statement from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses told investigators that several people had been involved in an argument and physical fight at a party about two miles north of Interstate 70 on U.S. Highway 40, according to the statement.
A vehicle was fired on with a shotgun later Friday after the fight ended, the statement said. One person was standing outside the stopped vehicle and was injured by the shot, the statement said. Authorities declined to name the victims or suspects.
After hearing accounts from witnesses, sheriff’s deputies responding to the scene alerted other law enforcement agencies of a description of a vehicle suspected in the shooting, the statement said.
Avon Police stopped a vehicle matching the description and detained two men and one juvenile male at the request of the deputies, the statement said. The juvenile male was released to his father afterward, the statement said.
The two men, both Eagle County residents, were being held in the Eagle County jail Saturday pending filing of criminal charges, the statement said, which could range from felony assault to attempted murder.
Sheriff’s investigators were interviewing witnesses and investigating the incident Saturday. Anyone with information can contact the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office at 970-328-8500 or remain anonymous by calling Eagle County Crime Stoppers at 970-328-7007.
