BRECKENRIDGE Officers from the Breckenridge Police Department have recently been teaching firearms safety to students at Breckenridge and Upper Blue Elementary schools, and will now be offering classes for parents as well.
The curriculum for parents would include a review of what children are being taught in the school, a demonstration of different ways to secure firearms, and suggestions on how to discus firearms safety at home.
Free gun locks provided by Project Child Safety will also be distributed at the class.
We feel that a class should be hosted for parents who might be seeking more information regarding children and gun safety, said Officer Josh Dunworth, who is one of the instructors.
The class will be held on Thursday, May 8, from 6–7 p.m. at the Breckenridge Police Department, which is located at 150 Valley Brook Street.
Parents who wish to attend are encouraged to RSVP to Officer Dunworth by calling (970) 453-2251, ext. 1501, or at joshuad@townofbreckenridge.com.
