SILVERTHORNE — Growing up with a spiritual healer and a nuclear physicist for parents left Jolina Karen with a life quest of trying to combine spirituality and science.

She has a degree in psychology, but is not a licensed therapist. She is a certified Demartini Method teacher, a massage therapist, energy healer and certified kinesiologist.

“I wanted to be a healer. ... I set off on a journey to find what being a healer was all about,” said Karen, of Frisco.

She studied alternative methods in England, the Caribbean, South Africa and the United States. Then, six years ago, she found what she was looking for with the Demartini Method, she said.

“His book (‘The Breakthrough Experience’) jumped off the shelf at me,” Karen continued, adding it was the combination of healing and science she had been searching for.

Now, she will be promoting the method at three upcoming free Tuesday evening presentations at D’Vine Wine in Silverthorne, and the first, which begins at 7 p.m., will be held this week. People are invited to come a half hour or so before the “Wine and Wisdom” events and seating is limited, Karen said.

“The Demartini Method is a logical, learnable process that leads one through a series of high quality questions that equilibrate the mind and open the heart,” she wrote to describe it. “The experience that follows radically shifts one’s world view, collapses useless baggage, alters physiology and transforms relationships. It is, in my opinion, the most powerful healing tool on the planet.”

The first of the talks will be about the link between thoughts and physiology and how love can transform anything, Karen said. She will talk about breast cancer and heart disease alongside the healing power of gratitude, she added. And breast cancer in particular is a topic close to her heart because her mother died of breast cancer, as did her grandmother.

The following Tuesday evening the topic is about making sense of bi-polar natures. She will describe “a revolutionary and enlightening view of the human experience” based on mathematics, quantum theory and cosmology, according to a flyer.

And the last one will address creating caring relationships. “I believe there is only one thing to trust another person to do, and if you don’t know what that thing is you’re guaranteed to set yourself up for disappointment,” said Karen, adding that to find out what that one “thing” is, people should check out her third talk on May 20.

Karen has taken clients through the steps and heard feedback about the impact it has had on their lives, she said. “The work shifts the way you see the world,” she added.
