SUMMIT COUNTY — This weekend’s benefit walk for the Colorado chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will be the last for Team Tatro — the event’s major fundraising group.
After five years of organizing between 75 and 110 walkers for the annual Saturday morning stroll, team founder Cheryl Tatro is hanging up her sneakers. She’s selling her business — Snowbridge, Inc. — to her sons and retiring.
“I expect to be traveling this time next year,” Tatro said. “It seemed like a good time to move on.”
Tatro organized the team in 2004 as a tribute to her husband, Bill, who died from complications of primary progressive MS in 2003. In the last four walks, Team Tatro has raised more than $40,000.
The Dillon event is one of 13 held throughout the state in May. Proceeds from the walk will go directly to research or client services for state residents living with the debilitating disease.
While Tatro’s organizational abilities, as well as her large circle of generous friends, have contributed substantially to the walk’s success in recent years, the Gold Hill resident emphasized that many other individuals and teams also participate.
“All the money goes to fight MS,” she said.
The walk will be preceded by breakfast and followed by lunch provided by local restaurants and grocery stores. In addition, all walkers will be able to participate in a raffle for numerous prizes donated by local merchants. Kids and dogs are welcome.
