PARK COUNTY — Park County Commissioner Louis Doc McKay passed away Thursday night after a lengthy hospital stay, according to county public information officer Linda Balough.
In 2006, Commissioner McKay, 68, was elected to serve District III of Park County that includes the towns of Fairplay and Alma, and communities of Hartsel, Jefferson, Como, Lake George and Guffey, and was sworn in on Jan. 9, 2007. Previous to taking office, McKay was the Park County chief building official, serving in that capacity since September of 2001.
McKay had been with the Englewood Colorado Fire Department from 1969 until 1998, and brought his considerable experience and knowledge to serve his community and all of Park County. After moving to Park County in 1998, Doc became active in his local community, serving as the President of the Indian Mountain Metropolitan Parks and Recreation District Board, and served for many years as the President of the Jefferson-Como Fire Protection District. He began his employment at the Park County Building Department in March of 1999.
Doc was undergoing treatment at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver at the time of his passing.
Memorial plans have not been made at this time.
