SUMMIT COUNTY — Looking for ways to meet 21st century challenges, the National Wildlife Federation is holding its annual national conference at Keystone this week.

The meeting begins today with an opening reception and continues through May 17 with a series of workshops designed to encourage participation and conversation among attendees. Topics include: public land protection, water for wildlife and people, renewable fuels and habitat, reversing nature deficit and a session on civic engagement and how to build legislative clout.

The organization will hand out achievement awards and general sessions will highlight pressing threats to wildlife and the need for a revitalized conservation movement.

The National Wildlife Federation represents 4 million members, partners and supporters to actively educate, inspire, and promote achievable solutions to everyday Americans in communities from coast-to-coast.

The federation's efforts are focused on three key areas deemed to have the biggest potential impact on the country's wildlife; global warming, habitat protection and restoration and connecting people with nature.
