Robert B. Borkovec was born Sept. 7, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., to George and Evelyn Borkovec, both deceased. He moved to Colorado to attend Regis University. He married Carole Vermilya, also of Illinois, on Jan. 1, 1955. Together they celebrated the birth and adoption of nine children. He departed this life April 10, 2008, after a valiant battle with cancer with his family at his side.

Bob began his insurance career at his Dad’s office in the summer of 1952 and started with Standard And Main Insurance Company in Colorado in 1957. He was active in the Broomfield Jaycees, the Foot Lighters, and the Rotary Club. He was also an active member of Nativity Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and a Retreat Counselor at Camp Saint Malo.

He was also a Broomfield Ambulance attendant and volunteered on the A-Basin Ski Patrol for 13 years. He retired and moved to Maui, Hawaii, with his wife Carole in 1993 but quickly returned to work until his second retirement in 2006, when he and Carole returned to Broomfield. Shortly thereafter, the couple purchased their long-dreamed-for cabin in the wooded outskirts of Franktown. Bob loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and many personal and business friends. He also thoroughly enjoyed skiing, golfing, hunting, sailing, hiking, coaching football, and working with wood.

Cherishing his memory are: his wife, Carole; his nine children, Katherine Tucker, Robert Borkovec, Mark Borkovec, Laura Borkovec, Barbara Borkovec Rice, Susan Henry, Cara Borkovec, Tony Borkovec, Loren Borkovec; two brothers, Thomas Borkovec and Richard Borkovec; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three sons-in-law, four daughters-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends. He will be greeted in heaven by his parents, Carole’s parents, four infant children, his brother George Borkovec, Jr. and his sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Hank Berger.
