DILLON — Dillon Valley Elementary School plans to use iPods to enhance first graders’ English and Spanish comprehension through a $7,500 Quest Foundation grant.
The grant will be awarded Wednesday to teachers Leslie Davison and Blanca Herrera. It will be used for a moblie cart equipped with a laptop and 20 iPods. Native Spanish speakers will use curriculum through the system to learn English, and vice-versa.
“The iPod makes it possible to deliver large quantities of comprehensible language to students in an efficient and convenient manner. Students will be able to slow the audio to a comprehensible speed,” according to the grant proposal.
The proposal estimates 75 first-grade students will benefit from the grant. The technology also allows for an array of podcast options, including connections with South-American sister schools.
