KREMMLING Ð Catch a northern pike at Wolford Mountain Reservoir, earn $20.

That's the deal the Colorado River District, owner of Wolford Mountain Reservoir in Grand County, is offering the angling public in an effort to help preserve the reservoir's trout and kokanee fishery.

The Colorado River District and the state of Colorado have invested in stocking the reservoir with trout and kokanee to create a thriving sport fishery. Northern pike threaten the success of the trout and kokanee.

To participate in the Wolford Mountain Reservoir Fishery Management Incentive Program, anglers need to bring live northern pike to the campground host (site 18) at the reservoir. Anglers will be asked to kill the pike and provide information about where and how the pike was caught.

Anglers are encouraged to be mindful of state of Colorado fishing regulations when participating in the incentive program.

The program will continue during the 2008 season as long as budget allows. The Colorado River District reserves the right to refuse incentive payments for dead fish, or fish which are believed to have come from waters other than Wolford Mountain Reservoir. Some anglers may be asked to donate all or part of their northern pike catch for Colorado Division of Wildlife research programs.

Wolford Mountain Reservoir is located alongside Highway 40, seven miles north of Kremmling. It offers camping, day use, boat launch and boat rental facilities. Water stored in the reservoir benefits the West Slope, endangered fish and Denver Water.
