SUMMIT COUNTY — The White River National Forest has picked Tahoe-based Jan Cutts as the new Dillon District ranger to permanently replace Rick Newton, who left in February.
The district ranger spot was been filled by Scott Ludwig for the past three three months.
Cutts, an 18-year Forest Service veteran, has served as American River district ranger since 2005. In a press release, the White River National Forest said her experience, combined with her love for the outdoors as an avid hiker, backpacker, skier, and snowboarder will help in her new job managing one of the most complex and highly visited districts on the Forest.
Before taking on the American River district ranger post, Cutts worked on the Inyo National Forest in the eastern Sierra Nevada as assistant forest archeologist, assistant public affairs officer, civil rights officer, and as a deputy district ranger.
Cutts has a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from the University of California at Davis.
“I am excited about joining the White River National Forest team and providing leadership on Dillon Ranger District. I am especially looking forward to developing and fostering relationships with district employees and our community partners”,” Cutts said. “Relationship-building is an important asset to have since the Dillon District has many outstanding partnerships with local groups that volunteer thousands of hours each year helping with district projects,” she added.
Cutts will report to the Dillon Ranger District in August, though an exact date has yet to be arranged.
